ONION TOMATO THOKKU- TOMATO PICKLE
Onion tomato thokku is a side dish prepared using tomato and onions as a primary ingredient along with the south Indian typical masala powders such as chilli powder, coriander powder etc..

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:
- 5 Tablespoons Oil
- 1 Teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1 Teaspoon Chana dal
- 1/4 Teaspoon Hing
- 1 String, Curry leaves
- 2 Onion, finely chopped
- 1 Tomato. chopped
- 1 Tablespoon Red Chilli Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Coriander Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Garam Masala Powder
- 1/4 Tablespoon Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
- Salt, as need
- 1/2 Small bunch Coriander leaves, finely chopped
QUICK LOOK OF RECIPE:
1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, cumin, chana dal, curry leaves and saute for 30 seconds.
2. Add chopped onions, tomato and saute it for 2 min, cover the lid and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Add all the masala powder and little water.
4. Cook for 10 minutes, lastly add chopped coriander leaves.
5. Serve hot with chapati or rice.
HOW TO MAKE:
(STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE WITH PHOTOS)
1. Heat 5 tablespoons of oil in a pan over a medium flame. when it is heated add mustard seeds cumins, let it splutter for few seconds. Then add chana dal and curry leaves. Saute it for 30 seconds.
2. Add finely chopped onions, saute till onions become translucent.
3. Then add chopped tomatoes and saute it for 2 minutes. Cover the lid and cook for 2 to 5 minutes.
4. Add masala powders such as red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder and salt as per your taste. Keep flame low while you are adding these powders otherwise, it will be burnt. Then mix all together.
5. Add little water (1/4th cup) and give it a good mix. Cover the lid and cook for 10 to 15 minutes over medium-low flame until oil separates.
6. After 10 minutes, open the lid. now it is completely cooked. Lastly, add chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
7. Now, the Onion tomato thokku is ready to serve.
SERVING IDEAS:
Best side dish for Chapati but good to have with rice.
